Curriculum and academic staff development offer the following services:

  • Implements Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) as well as institutional policies related to curriculum, teaching, and learning and academic development initiatives.
  • Oversees the process of curriculum design and development for all programmes and the core curriculum and ensures the alignment of these with the institutional and national policy framework, expectations of professional bodies and other key stakeholders.
  • Ensures the academic credibility of programmes.
  • Plans, coordinates and implements innovative, effective, and efficient strategies to integrate into the curriculum.
  • Supports academic staff to transform University curricula through amongst others incorporation of sustainable development, HIV-AIDS, graduate attributes and community engagement in Teaching and Learning.
  • Coordinates and implements annual Professional development for academic staff.
  • Induction and mentorship of new academic staff through the accredited PGDIPHE programme and Curriculum 101.
  • Coordinates the University’s peer evaluation of teaching and learning.
  • Initiates and coordinates curriculum renewal and transformation initiatives through among others:
    1. Decolonisation/Africanisation/Indigenisation of the curriculum.
    2. Internationalisation of the curriculum.
    3. Transform curriculum through, amongst others Collaborative Online Intercultural Learning (COIL).
  • Coordinates curriculum-related projects such as the current UCDG curriculum transformation project funded by DHET.
