Call for nominations for members of the CUT Council

CUT is one of the foremost higher education institutions in the heartland of South Africa, dedicated to quality education and training, mainly in science, engineering and technology. Over the past years, CUT has developed into a leading university that is able to take its place in the national as well as international higher education landscapes.

Section 26(2) of the Higher Education Act (Act No. 101 of 1997, as amended) provides for the establishment of councils at all public higher education institutions.

The council is the highest decision-making body at a university, and is therefore responsible for governing the institution in accordance with the Higher Education Act and respective institutional statutes.

CUT hereby calls for nominations for candidates to fill the vacancy in the IT Programme Management Expert portfolio on the ICT Governance Committee for a period of four (4) years. The vacancy is to be filled by a person who has skills, high-level expertise, and experience in institutional governance as it pertains to the portfolios applicable to the work of the CUT Council.

Requirements:

At minimum, a postgraduate qualification, a proven track record of ethical leadership, and governance experience. Membership to a professional body will be an added advantage. At least five (5) years’ governance board or council experience, and at least eight (8) years’ experience in an executive or senior management position.Professional certifications in Project management, Enterprise Architect, and IT Governance will be advantageous.

IT Programme Management Expert
We are seeking individuals with:
  • a strong understanding of enterprise IT systems and governance;
  • proven experience delivering digital transformation, ERP, core systems, cybersecurity and infrastructure programmes
  • excellent strategic thinking and benefits realisation.
  • experience in public sector, SOE or regulated environments

Individuals with the necessary expertise and special skills in these fields, aligned with the philosophy and character of a university of technology, who will also reflect our country’s democratic ethos, and with the ability to contribute to the strategic oversight of a university, are required to serve on the CUT Council. CUT is committed to an inclusive, transformative environment, and emphasises equity and diversity in the nomination process. Applicants must be South African citizens. Applicants must be able to travel to the university and other venues for in-person meetings as required at the cost of the university.

Nominees and applicants must bear in mind that universities are public institutions, and serving as members of a university council and/or experts should be motivated by public good service, rather than self-interest and personal gain. There should be no expectation of remuneration, as each institution determines in its institutional rules whether or not honoraria will be paid to its external council members and/or experts.

The comprehensive nomination form, outlining the criteria and role of members of Council, is available from liventer@cut.ac.za.

The closing date for nominations is 20 February 2026. No late nominations will be considered.
