Programme Regulations & Additional Requirements

• Mode of Study: This programme is offered in a block session format. Block dates are published each February, and students must plan accordingly by arranging leave from employment, if applicable. Attendance at all block sessions is mandatory.
• Research Requirement: In consultation with CUT, the student is expected to present a suitable research project within their area of specialisation.
• Selection Process: All admissions are subject to a formal review and selection process conducted by the Department of Tourism and Event Management.
• Equivalent Qualifications & RPL Process: Due to limited capacity, only a small number of applicants with equivalent qualifications (approximately 10% of the annual intake) will be admitted. These applicants must:
  • Demonstrate at least two years of work experience in the public sector.
  • Attend a mandatory interview as part of the selection process.
  • Complete the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) templates before admission can be finalised.
• Preference & Early Application: Preference is given to candidates currently employed in managerial or supervisory roles. As the RPL process is time-consuming, candidates are strongly encouraged to apply early when the admission cycle opens for the following academic year.
• Graduation: Upon successful completion, the Postgraduate Diploma in Tourism Management (NQF Level 8) will be awarded during the official graduation ceremony at the Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT).
