One of the top 100 learners in the Free State joins CUT to pursue his IT dream

Kananelo Raleting officially joins the CUT family. He registered for a Diploma in Information Technology.

As the first-year registration process at the Central University of Technology kicked off on 22 January 2025, it marked a significant milestone for many, including Kananelo Sibusiso Raleting. Hailing from Botshabelo and living with cerebral palsy, Kananelo's journey is a powerful testament to resilience and determination. His recent recognition as one of the top 100 learners in the Free State during the Matric well-done celebration is a clear indication of his academic prowess and the barriers he has overcome.

Kananelo chose CUT as his academic home, registering for a Diploma in Information Technology, a passion he had at a young age. Despite facing significant challenges, including physical limitations and personal hardships, he has consistently demonstrated a strong work ethic and an unwavering commitment to his education, serving as a source of inspiration for others.

His father, a key figure in his life, sparked his interest in IT, introducing him to the world of technology and computers at a young age. This early exposure ignited a passion in Kananelo, making his decision to join CUT an easy one. Influenced by the positive experiences of friends, who praised the institution's supportive environment and commitment to inclusiveness, Kananelo was confident in his choice.

Kananelo shared his experience, saying that his registration went smoothly, alleviating his initial concerns about accessibility. "Coming to CUT this morning I was overwhelmed with anxiety and had my unknown fears of being rejected due to my condition,” he shared. "Upon my arrival, I received a warm welcome and was assisted without any issues. I am proud and pleased to say that I am a registered student and in good hands! All facilities are wheelchair-friendly, as I could manoeuvre easily around campus," he stated, highlighting the supportive environment at CUT.

“I am looking forward to making new friends, making my parents proud and enjoying my university life. This is my chance, and I am going to make the most of it.”

Kananelo encouraged other students with a disability to believe in their capabilities and not let the world define them. “Anyone can be what they want in life. If you put your mind to it, you will achieve it!"
