CUT Welkom Campus and Lejweleputswa District Education unite to support matric learners’ career choices

The CUT Welkom Campus Career Exhibition welcomed 6,481 Grade 12 learners from schools across the Lejweleputswa District, who engaged with university representatives, training providers, and industry experts to explore career opportunities in higher education, skills development programmes, and available bursary options.

CUT Welkom Campus in partnership with the Lejweleputswa District Education, successfully hosted a three-day Grade 12 Career Exhibition that brought together schools, tertiary institutions, training providers, and industry representatives to support learners in making informed decisions about their future careers paths.

The initiative formed part of the university’s ongoing commitment to community engagement while strengthening partnerships with the education sector. By collaborating with the district education office and other stakeholders, the university created an accessible platform that connected matric learners with opportunities in higher education, skills development, and career possibilities.

The exhibition aimed to expose learners to a diverse range of career opportunities, a pool of tertiary institutions, and professions in one space. Learners received information on admission requirements, bursary opportunities, and potential career pathways, while also gaining insight into the programmes offered at the university. The platform also served as an important student recruitment and marketing opportunity, allowing prospective students to interact directly with university representatives and learn more about studying at CUT.

Over the three days, a total of 6,481 Grade 12 learners from across the Lejweleputswa District attended the exhibition. Learners engaged with representatives from CUT faculties and departments as well as external institutions, asking questions about prospective studies and gathering information to support informed decisions about their future beyond school.

Speaking on the value of the exhibition, Faculty Officer Ms Tumi Motaung highlighted the positive impact of such engagements on young people preparing for life after matric.

“Experiences such as these empower our learners to dream big, plan wisely, and confidently pursue their future careers,” she said.

Through these initiatives, CUT continues to strengthen its role as an engaged and responsive university, fostering meaningful partnerships that expand access to information, opportunities, and pathways to higher education for learners in the region.
