Strengthening Partnerships and Collaboration: FS and NC institutions of higher learning engage on Business Continuity Management and Combined Assurance
CUT hosted representatives from University of the Free State (UFS), Motheo TVET College, Flavious Mareka TVET College, Maluti TVET College and Sol Plaatje University (SPU) for a collaborative discussion on Business Continuity Management (BCM) and Combined Assurance.
The Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT), recently hosted a regional partnership and engagement session focused on Business Continuity Management (BCM) and Combined Assurance for institutions of higher learning.
The engagement brought together key representatives from the University of the Free State (UFS), Motheo TVET College, Flavius Mareka TVET College, Maluti TVET College, and Sol Plaatje University (SPU). The collaborative session created a platform for knowledge sharing, strategic dialogue, and the exchange of best practices in managing risks that may disrupt institutional operations.
Participants explored how universities and colleges can strengthen their resilience and ensure continuity of critical functions during and after disruptive events such as cyberattacks, natural disasters, equipment failures, or student protests. The discussions focused on key elements of business continuity, including risk assessment, prioritisation of critical functions, contingency planning, resilience, and recovery management.
CUT’s Chief Risk Officer, Mr. Tshepo Mothudi, highlighted the importance of partnerships and shared learning within the higher education sector. “As professionals in risk, audit, and assurance, we operate in an increasingly complex and interconnected environment. It is therefore essential that we engage collaboratively, learn from one another, and build collective capacity in areas such as risk management, business continuity, and combined assurance,” said Mothudi.
The engagement also emphasised the role of ethics in higher education, underscoring the need to foster a culture of integrity and ethical leadership across all institutions.
This collaborative initiative supports CUT’s 2026-2030 Strategic Goals, which aim to position the university as a future-focused institution of technology, recognised for its culture of innovation, strategic partnerships, and impactful research and engagement.
