ENACTUS CUT crowned the National Champions at the Sandton Convention Centre

Congratulation to the Enactus CUT team for bringing it home! The Central University of Technology Enactus team was crowned National Champions on 14 July 2022 at the Enactus South Africa National Competition 2022 held at Sandton Conventional Centre, Gauteng.

The team secured the much-deserved trophy for their two projects - Village Fa and Vermiculture (worm farming).  The champions came tops at the national competition where four universities competed in the finals, the four institutions are the University of Venda, the University of Mpumalanga and the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal, making CUT the only University of Technology among the traditional universities. Winning the national crown means the team will travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico, to represent South Africa among 32 countries. The world cup competition is scheduled to take place from 30 October to 02 November 2022.

The victorious team is led by Prof. Crispen Chipunza, Prof. Patient Rambe, Mr Ephraim Tshobeka and Ms Maraka Lefera. The team also dedicated their victory to the Community Engagement Unit, Agri-Business Corner, Prof. Albert Strydom: Dean of Management Sciences, Governance and Student Life unit, PAVA (Lesotho NGO), as well as their sponsors (Ford SA, Harmony Gold Mine and Interstate Bus Services).

Background: Once a year, a group of business, student, and academic leaders from across the country gather to showcase how entrepreneurial action and open innovation are transforming lives and creating a better future for South African citizens. Twenty-seven University based Enactus teams from across the country spends their year converting ideas into action as they work to improve the livelihoods of others. Enactus National competition allows each team an opportunity to showcase their community empowerment projects that made a difference in communities and had the momentum to create new careers, spark business innovation and deliver fresh energy in social responsibility.
