CUT collaborates with government to upskill primary school teachers

From 22 to 25 March 2022, the Central University of Technology conducted training on Digital Literacy for 26 teachers from Atang Primary School as well as Subject Advisors from the Free State province. The main objective of the training is to upskill teachers and expand their capabilities.
Atang Primary School is among the schools in the country selected to pilot the Robotics and Coding subjects rolled out by the Department of Basic Education. The Digital Literacy training aims to empower teachers with the requisite skills to integrate these subjects into the curriculum.
The teachers were trained on topics such as - how to work on computers, create online content, and collaborate using online platforms. When asked how the training will add value to their day-to-day jobs, one of the participants said, “I am happy to have gained this knowledge because from now I will be able to use the computer to set tests, write reports and archive all data. The computer will also help me to be organised and work faster.”
Another participant indicated that they learned how to record informal assessments and design pictorial assessments for their learners.
A follow up training on Robotics and Coding will be conducted later in the year, and with funding available, more teachers and schools will be able to receive the same training from CUT.
