CUT 2025 Autumn Graduations kicks off at the Welkom Campus

CUT Autumn Graduation ceremony kicked off at the Welkom Campus and will conclude at the Bloemfontein Campus on 27 March 2025. The graduates are the first cohort to be capped at the new Multipurpose Hall in their newly launched regalia, with the new Chairperson of Council, Cllr Rajesh Mahabeer, attending for the first time.

The Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT) Autumn Graduations kicked off at the Welkom Campus on 19 March 2025. In this season, a total of 3 715 graduates from both campuses will walk the isle to receive their qualifications. Among them, 21 will be awarded doctoral degrees, while 38 will receive their master's degrees.

In his congratulatory message, Prof. David Ngidi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Teaching and Learning, congratulated the 729 Welkom Campus graduates for their achievements and hard work, and applauded the parents, guardians and lecturers for encouraging and supporting them throughout their academic journey. “This is our first day of a week-long celebration that will continue at our Bloemfontein Campus. Today, we are celebrating your excellence and determination. You have achieved your dreams against all odds. You have worked tirelessly to be here today, and we congratulate you on your individual achievements!”

Excitement and ululations from graduates, guardians and parents filled the Welkom Multipurpose Hall as they sing the celebratory song ‘Ntate nthekele Seana-Marena’.

Mr Lekhooa Seleke, Interim President: Alumni Association, reminded the newly capped alumni that their journey with the institution does not end after graduations. “You are now part of the CUT Convocation, a lifelong network of alumni who share the responsibility of advancing our university’s mission. We need you to be active members, give back, mentor those who come after you and continue to contribute to the growth of the university. The world is changing rapidly, and to remain relevant, you must continue to equip yourselves with new knowledge and skills. Your journey of learning does not stop here. I encourage you to further your studies, explore the postgraduate opportunities, and always strive for excellence,” said Seleke.
