CUT Vice-Chancellor advances equity in Higher Education at global WAHEN Conference

Prof. Pamela Dube, Vice-Chancellor and Principal of CUT, with Ms Mo Malele, Student Development Advisor from the Saville Foundation, during the World Access to Higher Education Network (WAHEN) Conference.
The World Access to Higher Education Network (WAHEN) two-day conference marks a pivotal moment in the global higher education dialogue. Among the notable participants are Central University of Technology Vice-Chancellor and Principal Prof. Pamela Dube and Ms Mo Malele, Student Development Advisor from the Saville Foundation, who mentors CUT students through the Atleha Programme.
“Yesterday’s discussions provided a critical platform for global partners to explore pressing issues around equity in higher education, student access, and success. Today, we focus on strategies for a more equitable higher education system worldwide,” shared Prof. Dube. “These conversations are vital for CUT, considering our historical context. About two-thirds of our students come from disadvantaged backgrounds and may not have similar opportunities elsewhere. We are committed to creating pathways for their academic and professional success.”
A highlight from the first day was the launch of the UNESCO International Institute for Higher Education Report, offering valuable insights to inform policy and establish best practices.
The conference's diverse global representation underscores the urgent need for universities to address barriers to access collectively. The event concludes on 10 December 2024, leaving participants with actionable insights and a strengthened commitment to advancing equity in higher education.
