U.S. Consulate Johannesburg visits CUT

The U.S. Consul General, Mr Vincent Spera and delegates visited the Central University of Technology on 16 September 2021 to explore possible areas of collaboration and cement their long-standing relations.

The delegates were warmly welcomed by the CUT Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Prof. Henk de Jager who mentioned how critical partnerships are in ensuring the success of any organisation. “As a university, we believe that we will never be able to achieve success without partnerships. We also believe that through holding hands with others, we will be able to achieve more than doing it on our own. You may be seen as guests now but, I hope that when you leave today, you will leave as our friends. Partnerships are a critical element of our success and I believe such partnerships must be a win-win situation.”

During the engagements, CUT representatives presented innovative and impactful projects that are currently active and how the Consulate through various programmes can improve the CUT footprint in the US. The delegates also had an opportunity to tour the campus and visit some of the research centres.

Among the various international partners and collaborations on the CUT list are, Illinois University and the Faculty of Health and Environmental Sciences in the Department of Agriculture collaboration, Nebraska State University and the Faculty of Engineering Built Environment and Information Technology in the Department of Information Technology, Station 1 Laboratory Inc. a US non-profit organization based in Massachusetts and the Faculty of Engineering Built Environment and Information Technology, the University of West Kentucky and the Faculty Humanities with a specific focus on STEM Education Research as well as the Georgia State University and the Faculty Humanities with a specific focus on Teacher Education Development Research.
