New beginnings, bright futures: CUT Bloemfontein Campus welcomes the Class of 2026
The official opening set the tone for the year ahead as students came together to enjoy performances and celebrate the beginning of their academic journey.
Excitement, fresh possibilities, and ambition filled the air as the Central University of Technology (CUT) officially opened its gates to more than 4,700 first-year and returning students at the Bloemfontein Campus on 06 February 2026. The moment followed a successful official opening ceremony held on 04 February 2026 at the Welkom Campus, marking the start of a new academic journey across the institution.
Welcoming students, the Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Prof. Pamela, assured them that choosing CUT was a step in the right direction. She encouraged them to embrace the opportunities ahead, grow academically and personally, and make the most of their time at the university.

First-year students from diverse backgrounds shared their excitement about embarking on this new chapter. United by new friendships already formed at CUT, they spoke eagerly about meeting new people, building lasting connections, and succeeding in their studies.

A touching family moment unfolded as Yolandi Fivaz proudly stood alongside her son, Dylan Fivaz, during the official opening. Dylan, who is pursuing a Diploma in Information Technology, chose CUT because of his passion for computers and the opportunity to play hockey. Looking ahead with enthusiasm, he shared his excitement about learning new skills and exploring everything his studies have to offer.
Beaming with pride, Yolandi said Dylan is the first of her three children to attend university. She expressed her unwavering support and excitement for the journey ahead, confident that CUT will help him grow, thrive, and reach his dreams.
Together, these stories reflect a powerful start to the 2026 academic year, one defined by hope, determination, and the promise of success at CUT.
