AI4WOW Project leaders Prof. Desere Kokt, Professor: Human Resource Management, Prof. Laetus Lategan, from the Research office and Ms Hannelie van der Walt, Senior Talent Management Specialist.

The Faculty of Management Sciences launched the "Artificial Intelligence for the World of Work" (AI4WOW) project. This initiative aims to explore the historical evolution of the working environment and anticipate the transformative impact of AI on future professions.

As the 4th Industrial Revolution continues to accelerate, technological advancements are reshaping industries and job markets. The AI4WOW project seeks to understand these changes and equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in this evolving landscape.

The launch event featured insightful presentations and discussions on the historical context of work, the impact of previous industrial revolutions, and the potential of AI to revolutionize industries such as tourism, hospitality, academia, talent management, and engineering.

Prof. Albert Strydom, Dean of the Faculty, highlighted the irreversible changes brought about by the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR). He emphasised the fusion of physical, digital, and biological technologies that continue to redefine traditional workspaces. “The 4IR is characterised by a fusion of technologies that blur the lines between physical, digital, and biological spheres,” he stated, pointing out the rapid pace of these developments.

Dr Esther Palmer, from the Department of Business Management, reflected on the project’s significance, particularly its focus on industries such as tourism, hospitality, academia, talent management, and engineering. She praised the initiative for its futuristic perspective and its potential to prepare students for a competitive job market. She also commended Professors Kokt and Lategan for their leadership and dedication to this ambitious initiative.
