CUT’s 2022/2023 Student Representative Council (SRC) incoming office bearers announced

It is the D-Day for the 2022/2023 SRC results announcement at the Central University of Technology, and the potential incoming office bearers wait in despair to hear their verdict from the Pricewaterhousecoopers (PwC) - reputable audit firm employed to ensure that the elections run fair and smooth.
The Student Representative Council (SRC) is an important student body in all universities as it plays a leading role in many student activities and connects students and management. Among the contesting student political parties were South African Student Congress (SASCO), Revolution Movement and the Independent Movement.
CUT Registrar, Dr Sally Dzingwa, said that the elections are important because student leaders have a critical role to play in the stability of the institution. She also mentioned that students must know their roles in the university and how the SRC can support them. Mr China Kokoana, Acting Dean of Student Affairs, added that they have opted to use the services of PwC to ensure a fair process. He also mentioned that there will be by-elections for positions that were not contested.
In his congratulatory message, Prof. Alfred Ngowi, Acting Vice-Chancellor and Principal, congratulated the incoming office bearers-SASCO, for their unmatched victory and for showing eagerness to lead.
Asked how he felt about the outcome of the results, Thabo Moopela, newly elected SRC President, said the feeling is overwhelming but he is content that the students participated in their numbers. “As SASCO, we are grateful for this opportunity, we are happy with the outcomes and are ready to serve and re-pave this path for our next generation,” he said.
When sharing her thoughts, Karabelo Mokoena, 3rd year Graphic Design student, said that online voting was challenging for some, and she was hoping that elections would be traditional because everyone is back on campus.
