The Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf) has successfully nominated ten top young scientists from South Africa to attend the 70th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting dedicated to the disciplines of Chemistry, Physics and Physiology later this year in Lindau, Germany.

The ten South African nominees will be joining other 660 young scientists from 101 countries across the globe alongside the 70 Nobel laureates. Meetings are scheduled to take place from 28 June to 3 July 2020.

Amongst the participants is one of CUT’s very own scientist, Mr Percy Hohne, Lecturer in Electrical Electronic and Computer Engineering.

Mr Hohne obtained his B.Tech degree in Electrical Engineering in 2016 and received his M.Eng degree (Cum Laude) in 2018 from the Central University of Technology (CUT). He is currently enrolled for the Doctorate in Electrical Engineering and is expected to complete his thesis at the end of this year. His research interests are based on power and energy systems, energy management, renewable and alternative energy systems.

When asked about his nomination for this precious opportunity, he said that he is honoured and thrilled to be one of the participants of the 70^th Nobel Laureate meetings. “To be in the presence of some of the most respected scientists in the world is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I would like to thank the CUT for nominating and providing me with a platform to realise this momentous achievement. I take great pride in representing CUT at this highly prestigious event and would also like to express my deepest appreciation to ASSAf and the Department of Science and Innovation for all their assistance. I promise to do my utmost to convey the knowledge I have gained to all the students under my supervision, as well as my peers.”

ASSAf, as the official partner of the Lindau Foundation and with funding from the Department of Science and Innovation, annually nominates young scientists to attend the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting which serves as a platform for young scientists from all over the world to have an in-depth exchange of knowledge with Nobel Laureates.
