CUT FM Shines at the National Community Radio Awards

CUT FM scoops two awards at the National Community Radio Awards- Best Daytime Show (Sphe Ngwenya) and the Special Award Against All Odds (Yandisa ‘Quba’ Dlamini)

It brings the Central University of Technology, (CUT) great pride to announce that CUT FM has won two prestigious awards at the recently held National Community Radio Awards. The station received nominations in four categories and emerged as a double award winner, a remarkable achievement that highlights its excellence in broadcasting and community impact.

One of the accolades was awarded to the vibrant Sphe Ngwenya, who walked away with the Best Daytime Show Award for his dynamic programme ‘The Midday Experience’, which airs every weekday between 12:00 to 15:00. The award not only reflects the high quality of the show, but also affirms Sphe’s exceptional talent, creativity, and deep understanding of community radio. His ability to deliver engaging content and create a riveting listening experience has firmly positioned The Midday Experience as a listener favourite.

In addition, CUT FM received the Special Award Against All Odds, a recognition of resilience and commitment to inclusivity in the broadcasting space. This honour is particularly significant as it acknowledges the station’s ground-breaking step in employing Yandisa Dlamini, affectionately known as Quba, the first blind radio presenter in the country. Despite ongoing challenges and discrimination, CUT FM has championed diversity, inclusivity and accessibility, making history and setting a powerful example in the radio industry.

These accolades are not only a testament to the hard work, innovation, and dedication of the team, but also a reflection of the university’s commitment to community engagement, empowerment, and transformation. The radio station continues to serve as a platform that gives voice to diverse communities, while shaping the future of broadcasting with resilience and inclusivity.
