CUT Doctoral student shares her research findings with the globe at the 19th World Congress of Pharmacology
The Central University of Technology researcher and doctoral student Ms Moleboheng Binyane from the Department of Health Sciences shared her doctoral research findings with the globe at the 19th World Congress of Pharmacology held in Glasgow, Scotland.
The conference attracted over 300 researchers from around the globe, making it a truly international gathering of experts in the field.
Asked about the focus of her presentation, Binyane said she focused on the anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal activities and the toxicity assessment of Searsia erosa. “This traditional South African medicinal plant is commonly used to treat respiratory diseases. My research shed light on the potential medicinal properties of this plant and its applications in the field of respiratory health,” she said.
In her comments, Dr Hilda Mfengwana, Head of Department: Health Sciences, Faculty of Health and Environmental Sciences, said, “participating in the conference provided Ms Binyane with a valuable platform for networking and engaging in discussions about potential international collaborations in the areas of biomedical research and drug discovery. We take immense pride in Ms. Binyane's remarkable achievement, which recognises her accomplishments and highlights the high calibre of research being conducted at our university,” she said.
“Her representation at the World Congress of Pharmacology in Glasgow also serves as a testament to the dedication and excellence exhibited by our doctoral students in advancing scientific knowledge and contributing to the global scientific community,” she added.
