CUT Disability Unit awarded for excellence in supporting persons with disabilities

The Disability Unit at CUT, which serves as a central resource and a starting point for coordinated support for students with disabilities, was recently awarded for excellent support of persons with disabilities in the sale of Casual Day 2021 merchandise.

On Friday, 10 June 2022, Emmerentia Meyers, Admin at the Association of and for Persons with Disabilities (APD) Free State, handed over the award; which is awarded to stakeholders and supporters in recognition for all the hard work they put into fundraising; to the CUT Disability Unit. The APD is a non-governmental, registered non-profit organisation with a footprint throughout South Africa.

“The CUT Disability unit is honoured to receive this award as it highlights the impact made by the unit towards building a diverse and equitable society. The university and, by extension, the unit is committed to promoting diversity on campus among students to create equal educational opportunities for students with disabilities. In addition, the university offers a conducive environment to support and enhance learning for students with special needs,” said Mohau Manyarela, Senior Coordinator: Student Academic Support.

The unit also serves as a central resource and a starting point for coordinated support for students with disabilities to create an inclusive environment which encourages students to be independent and cope with their daily activities on campus.
