CUT Celebrates Mandela Day with Ihobe Primary School and Lenyora La Thuto Secondary School

At Lenyora La Thuto Secondary School, the CUT librarians undertook a similar initiative, arranging library books in a way that promotes easy access and encourages reading.

In honour of Mandela Day, the CUT Library and Information Services (LIS) team, under the dedicated leadership of Ms Betsy Eister, committed their 67 minutes to Ihobe Primary School on Moshoeshoe Road in Phahameng.

The theme of this year’s Mandela Day, 'Combating poverty and inequality is in our hands,’ served as a guiding principle for the CUT Library and Information Services (LIS) team's activities at Ihobe Primary School.

At Ihobe, Ms Keitumetse Betsy Eister, CUT Librarian, and her team demonstrated their commitment by spending 67 minutes setting up a fully functional library for the school and teaching learners about other library functions. The team also donated leisure reading books for the school.

Eister said that their collaboration with the school emphasises the importance of education in enriching the children’s minds, instilling the culture of reading at an early age, and following in the footsteps of Tata Madiba.

Ms Tshidi Mokgethi, principal of Ihobe Primary School, said no words can describe how grateful the school was to finally have a fully functional library. “We are grateful to CUT for thinking of us on this important day and ensuring our children’s education improves. Children’s minds need nourishment, and there is no better way to do that than encouraging them to read at this tender age.”

The CUT library stuff cleaned and arranged the library, installed new lights, arranged books on shelfs according to subject area and put-up library posters.A fully functional library of Ihobe Primary School. The learners were also taught how to look for books by book titles and authors.
