CUT and CENTLEC Celebrate Success of Executive Leadership Programme

CUT and CENTLEC Executives celebrate the successful completion of the inaugural Executive Leadership and Management Development Programme (ELMDP), showcasing a new chapter in strategic collaboration and professional advancement.

In September 2024, the Central University of Technology (CUT), in partnership with CENTLEC, launched a pioneering Executive Leadership and Management Development Programme (ELMDP). This Short Learning Programme (SLP), accredited at NQF Level 6, was specifically tailored for 20 of CENTLEC’s executive and senior managers. The programme aims to foster lifelong learning and equip leaders with the strategic, adaptive, and managerial skills necessary to thrive in today’s rapidly evolving global environment.

On 12 September 2025, all 20 participants proudly received their certificates, marking the successful completion of the six-month, 400-hour Executive Leadership and Management Development Programme (ELMDP). Delivered through a blend of intensive block sessions and online learning, the programme emphasised practical application through lectures, case studies, group discussions, and role plays. Admission was granted through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), enabling experienced professionals to bring valuable insights to the learning environment and foster rich peer-to-peer engagement.

In her address, Prof. Wendy Setlalentoa, Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Engagement, emphasised the significance of the ELMDP as the first credit-bearing Short Learning Programme (SLP) at CUT since its transition to a university of technology in 2004. She praised the participants, calling them “pioneers”, and commended their dedication to continuous learning and adaptability, which she identified as crucial qualities for future-ready leadership.

Cllr. Lulama Titi-Odili, Deputy Executive Mayor of Mangaung, applauded CUT for its role in empowering local government leaders. She emphasised the importance of expanding such initiatives, stating: “We must continue to collaborate in building capacity and driving sustainable development in our communities. I encourage the development of similar programmes specifically tailored for councillors.”

"By aligning academic expertise with real-world leadership needs, CUT and CENTLEC have demonstrated how strategic collaboration can drive meaningful impact. The success of the ELMDP stands as proof that when institutions unite around a shared vision, they can empower individuals, strengthen organisations, and contribute significantly to societal advancement."
