As the 2025 Matric Winter School progresses at the Central University of Technology (CUT), Welkom Campus, stories of dedication, excellence, and mentorship continue to emerge. Among the standout contributors this week is Mr Sandile Mhlongo, a proud CUT alumni and celebrated Life Sciences teacher, whose presence embodies the institution’s long-term commitment to building a future shaped by its graduates.

CUT is home once again to one of its accomplished graduates, Mr Sandile Mhlongo, who is contributing to the 2025 Matric Winter School programme. Now a Life Sciences teacher at Lephola Secondary School, Mr Mhlongo is widely recognised as one of the top educators in his field across the Lejweleputswa District. He was recently awarded for excellence in Life Sciences teaching, and his return to CUT marks a meaningful contribution to the academic growth of the next generation.

Reflecting on the programme’s unique structure, Mr Mhlongo highlighted the benefits of grouping learners according to performance levels. He noted that this approach allows for focused and responsive teaching. “The Winter School is different because we approach learners with a clear understanding of their capabilities. That focused teaching stimulates interest and helps learners realise their potential.”

He mentioned the motivational impact of the university environment. “Being exposed to university life residences, lecture venues, and professional learning spaces gives learners a vision of where they could be next year. It’s not just about the lessons; the environment inspires them to want more for themselves.”

Mhlongo further expressed his admiration for the learners’ dedication. Their active participation and willingness to seek clarity reflect a deep commitment to academic success. His role in the programme is not only as an educator but also as a symbol of what is possible through discipline, opportunity, and quality education values that CUT continues to uphold in its outreach and development efforts.
