Departure of Professor David Phathabantu Ngidi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Teaching and Learning
The Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT) announces the forthcoming departure of Professor David Phathabantu Ngidi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Teaching and Learning, effective from 31 December 2025.
Professor Ngidi has served CUT with distinction for fifteen (15) years, both as the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and as the DVC: Teaching and Learning, bringing unwavering commitment to academic excellence, student success, and innovation in teaching and learning. His leadership has significantly contributed to strengthening the University’s academic mission while advancing a transformative agenda in higher education sector.
As the conclusion of his contract on 30 April 2026 approached, Professor Ngidi was presented with a new professional opportunity that aligns with the next phase of his executive leadership journey. We congratulate him on this well-deserved opportunity and wish him continued success as he moves forward in his career.
While this news is met with mixed emotions, we recognise the profound impact Professor Ngidi has had across the institution. His departure will be felt not only within the executive leadership but across the University community. Plans are currently underway to formally acknowledge and celebrate his invaluable contributions in the coming weeks.
The University remains committed to ensuring continuity and stability during this leadership transition, and further communication regarding interim arrangements and succession planning will follow in due course.
