Call for proposal from the CUT Community: Africa Day 2023

The Centre for Global Engagement (CGE), in collaboration with the Institutional Renewal and Transformation Unit and the Communications and Marketing Unit, is thrilled to announce the upcoming commemoration of Africa Day 2023, to take place in May 2023, with the theme: “A Prosperous Africa Based on Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development”.

This special event will showcase the rich cultural diversity at CUT and address crucial issues impacting Africa. The notion of CUT as a leading African university of technology should be seen against the background of the university’s aspiration to be socially relevant, and to have a positive impact on the socio-economic conditions of the community it serves.

We invite all members of the CUT community to contribute to this memorable event. No matter your department or area of expertise, we believe everyone has something valuable to share. We want to hear from all students, alumni, academic and support staff with a passion for African history and/or culture, or any other relevant talents. We welcome contributions such as cultural performances, poetry, presentations on African education (virtual or live), discussions, workshops, or research paper presentations. Feel free to incorporate additional subthemes into the main theme.

To submit your proposal, please provide the following information:

  • Name of the proposed activity.
  • A brief description of the activity.
  • The intended audience.
  • Proposed date and duration of the activity.
  • Contact information of the organiser(s).

Submit your proposals to kpakose@cut.ac.za by no later than 24 April 2023.

Please join us in making this year's Africa Day commemoration a meaningful and unforgettable experience for all. We eagerly await your creative and engaging contributions.

Let's come together and celebrate the spirit of Africa!
