NSFAS: Appeal submissions for continuing students 2021

NSFAS has developed a user interface to process appeals for continuing students to enable easy submission and tracking of individual student appeals.

Processing of appeals will be as follows:

  1. Students will submit appeal form (PDF) and relevant supporting documents to the institutions’ Financial Aid Office.
  2. Institutions’ Appeals Committees will review all appeals submitted and compile a list of students to be recommended to NSFAS for funding.
  3. Delegated institution officials will log in to the myNSFAS Manager portal to upload and submit the completed Appeals Template and signed Letter of Recommendation.
  4. The status check functionality on the online portal must be used to track the progress of appeals submitted. Some appeal outcomes will be available within two business days, depending on the complexity of the appeal. Registration data/templates must be loaded for all approved appeals.

Appeal reason: Appeals on failure to meet academic performance requirements.

Other types of Appeals

For any other appeals reasons including i) Changed Financial Circumstances, ii) Loss of Bursary Sponsor and iii) Incorrect academic results submitted resulting in non-renewal of funding, please refer to the appeal form (PDF) for documents required for processing.

No new NSFAS applicants are allowed to appeal at institutions given that these students are able to appeal directly to NSFAS through the student’s myNSFAS portal which can be accessed on the NSFAS website.

As per the 2021 Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) Guidelines (available here https://www.cut.ac.za/nsfas), students who have exceeded their N+ rule do not qualify for funding and should not be allowed to submit an appeal.

Gap Year Students cannot appeal they must apply for funding.
