Prof. emasinde Masinde

Professor Muthoni Masinde is currently the acting Dean of the faculty and a Professor of Information Technology. 

Prof. Masinde is a distinguished academic and NRF C2 rated researcher with over three decades of expertise in Computer Science. She holds advanced graduate and post-graduate qualifications from the University of Nairobi, the Free University of Brussels, and the University of Cape Town.

Additionally, she has an MBA from the University of the Free State. Her extensive experience includes a decade-long tenure as the Head of the IT Department at the Central University of Technology, where she played a pivotal role in shaping ICT education and development.

Professor Masinde is renowned for her research in artificial intelligence, especially in Artificial Neural Networks and the Internet of Things, contributing notably to drought prediction tools aiding small-scale farmers. This work, along with over 100 scientific publications and numerous supervised postgraduate studies, establishes her as a field leader.

Her expertise spans beyond academia into ICT solutions for private and public sectors, including strategic development for multinational corporations and USAID-funded drought prediction projects.

Globally recogniSed for merging Indigenous Knowledge with ICTs in drought prediction, Professor Masinde has spoken at forums like the World Bank Food Security Forum. Her roles as a conference General Chair, journal editor, and European Commission consultant, alongside features in media outlets like CNN and BBC World Service, highlight her widespread influence.
