PORTFOLIO
Alfred Henry Makura is full Professor in Educational Management, Law and Research and is a Teaching Advancement at University [TAU] Fellow in the Department of Postgraduate Studies (Education), faculty of Humanities at the Central University of Technology, South Africa. Prof Makura has an abiding interest in, and is, passionate about female education leadership and management particularly, educational leadership, teacher education, curriculum development, gender studies, teacher education, higher education and professional development. Prof Makura subscribes to Gwarinda’s (1995) philosophy that education is not about training people’s habits on moral, mental and social attitudes but an act of liberating the human mind. For him, humans acquire knowledge, skills and values that can tackle contemporary challenges such as gender discrimination and violence, toxic masculinity, patriarchy, unethical leadership and gender disparities. Prof Makura previously worked as senior academic development practitioner and acting manager at the Teaching and Learning Centre [TLC] University of Fort Hare, and extensively as principal lecturer in Teacher Education at Morgenster Teachers' College, an Associate College of the University of Zimbabwe, and at the Zimbabwe Open University of distance education. He has graduated numerous students to Doctoral level. A prolific career author and widely cited academic, Prof Makura has published three books, four book chapters, over sixty journal articles and presented numerous papers at conferences and seminars.
