SHORT BIOGRAPHY
I started my lecturing career in 2000 as a lecturer’s assistant and soon realised that this is what I was born to do. I completed my B Tech degree in Food Service Management and Post School Education, after which I was even more convinced that I need to continue my career in the teaching environment. After gaining valuable experience during one-year employment as the Director of Student and Learning Affairs at South African College for Tourism in Graaff Reinet, I got married and returned to Bloemfontein. I grabbed the opportunity to return to the Hotel School, CUT, Free State as a junior lecturer with both hands. After completing my Master’s Degree in Higher Education at the University of the Free State, I was promoted to a lecturer. This master’s degree introduced me to important aspects and standards of teaching, learning and assessment - of which I did not have sufficient knowledge of beforehand. I was made aware of the importance of applying these aspects and adhering to the standards during facilitation and assessing students’ work. In 2016, I was appointed as acting Head of Department of the Hotel School. I have completed a Doctoral degree in Business Administration, which has significantly contributed to my self-belief as well as knowledge and experience in research. As I developed a sustainable financial management model for universities’ hotel schools, the insight I gained during the study, as well as with the implementation of the strategy, has proven to be invaluable in my position as Head of Department.
