The South African Institution of Civil Engineering elects CUT’s Prof. Jaco Gericke as a fellow - a milestone for him and the university

Prof. Jaco Gericke was elected as a Fellow of the South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE) on 22 October 2024, marking a pivotal moment in his career, the Department of Civil Engineering, and the University at large.
As a recognised corporate member of SAICE and Professional Engineer registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), Prof. Gericke embodies excellence within the civil engineering profession, showcasing responsibility and initiative alongside professional experience, both in industry and academia. As Head of Department (HOD), he also leads the Department of Civil Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment, and Information Technology (FEBIT) where his achievements boost the department's standing and the broader faculty and university community.
Prof. Gericke said the recognition within the civil engineering community humbles him. “What is more important is that my contributions over the years did not go unnoticed. It shows that such recognition can be achieved through dedication, effective leadership, and a steadfast commitment to the profession.”
In her heartfelt congratulatory message to Prof. Gericke on his prestigious achievement, Prof. Muthoni Masinde, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology said “On behalf of the faculty, I extend our warmest congratulations to Prof. Gericke for being elected as a Fellow of SAICE. This prestigious recognition not only reflects his outstanding personal achievements but also enhances the reputation and professionalism of the Department of Civil Engineering.
