Ms Busi Matube, ICT Director and Chief Digital Officer, received the Intelligent Government Implementation award at the Intelligent ICT Awards Africa 2024.

CUT has worked closely with Datacentrix to deploy its new wireless network infrastructure. This infrastructure will ensure the connectedness of students and staff to digital resources, both internal and external to the network, and provide a medium through which the university can relay data from smart buildings-backed systems. This accolade highlights the successful collaboration with Datacentrix on a wireless network project, an important step in CUT’s digital transformation journey.

Ms Matube and her team’s dedication and vision have been instrumental in this achievement. The successful roll-out of phase one of its three-year network and WiFi and infrastructure upgrade improves connectivity and advances the university’s digital transformation efforts.

“This award is a monumental achievement for CUT and a clear indicator of the success of our digital transformation strategy. Winning the Intelligent ICT Award for our WiFi project not only validates our efforts to enhance connectivity and leverage cutting-edge technologies but also inspires us to continue pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the realm of digital education,” said Matube.

She added that “this award signifies more than just a technological upgrade. It reflects a commitment to providing students and staff with a seamless and efficient online experience, which is crucial for academic excellence and operational efficiency. The enhanced connectivity has already shown tangible benefits, including improved user experiences and increased network reliability, particularly in high-traffic areas such as libraries and academic support centres.”

In conclusion, Matube said that the successful implementation of the project is just the beginning as the university plans to continue its journey towards a fully digitised campus, integrating more Internet of Things and smart technologies to enhance educational delivery and campus life further. “It also serves as a beacon of the university’s dedication to excellence and innovation in the digital age.”
