Vice-Chancellor and Principal Prof. Pamela Dube, addressing stakeholders during the Institutional Indaba, emphasising the importance of meaningful engagement and collective action in shaping CUT’s future.

The Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT), recently hosted its Institutional Indaba under the theme "Rebuilding Relations", bringing together Executive Management, organised labour, the Institutional Forum (IF), and the Student Representative Council (SRC) in a shared commitment to strengthening institutional relationships and shaping the future of the university.

Conceived as an inclusive platform for engagement, the Institutional Indaba created a space for open dialogue, collective reflection, and collaborative problem-solving. More than a discussion forum, it served as a strategic intervention to strengthen trust, promote social cohesion, and encourage meaningful stakeholder participation. The outcomes of the engagement will also inform the development of CUT's stakeholder engagement framework.

Welkom Campus staff members participated virtually in the Institutional Indaba, actively engaging in discussions focused on rebuilding relations and strengthening the university community.

Staff and students participated as equal partners, reaffirming that the future of CUT is a collective responsibility. While acknowledging existing challenges, delegates embraced the opportunity to explore practical solutions grounded in collaboration, innovation, accountability, and shared leadership.

At the heart of the discussions was the guiding question: "How do we collectively build a more trusted, accountable, inclusive and engaged CUT?" This challenge shaped robust conversations focused on creating a university culture built on transparency, respect, and mutual accountability.

Addressing participants, Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Prof. Pamela Dube, emphasised that the true success of the Institutional Indaba would be measured not by attendance, but by the quality of engagement and the institution's commitment to turning dialogue into action.

"The success of this Indaba is not measured simply by attendance, but by the quality of engagement and the willingness of our community to engage honestly with the issues that matter most. The insights, recommendations and commitments that emerged from the discussions will play an important role in informing the next steps as we work together to strengthen our institution. The real measure of success will be our ability to translate these ideas and commitments into meaningful action that advances the goals and aspirations of our university," she said.

The Institutional Indaba marked an important step towards inclusive governance, collaborative leadership, and meaningful stakeholder engagement, ensuring that every voice contributes to shaping the institution's future. More importantly, it marked the beginning of a renewed institutional journey, one built on trust, stronger partnerships, and a shared vision for a resilient, inclusive, and future-focused university.

As the university advances its strategic priorities, the Institutional Indaba has laid a strong foundation for sustained collaboration, deeper institutional cohesion, and collective ownership of the university's future, demonstrating that lasting transformation is achieved when the entire university community moves forward together.
