CUT confers Honorary Doctorate to Prof. Itumeleng Mosala

The Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT) has conferred an Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration to one of South African’s foremost academic intellectuals, Prof. Itumeleng Mosala. Prof. Mosala’s impressive track record has seen him play critical roles in both the public and private sectors, from advising government, to providing strategic leadership on important global concerns such as nuclear energy.
The 2020 graduations are taking place over a three-day period, from 28 April 2021 to 30 April 2021, presented in virtual mode. 4689 students will be graduating, including 59 Masters graduates and 21 Doctorate graduates.
A published author, social commentator, editor, and renowned speaker; Prof. Mosalais at the helm of the South African operations of the Fortune 500 Company, Westinghouse Electric, serving as its Regional Vice-President. He also founded numerous successful enterprises, including the financial services advisory company Still Nascent Ventures. In addition, he co-founded Optimum Outcomes International, a company that provides a range of services to government and municipalities, aimed at strengthening internal processes, procedures and improving efficiency.
Furthermore, he served the Government of the Republic of South Africa as the Director-General of the National Department of Arts and Culture. Between 1998 and 2003, Prof. Mosala was the Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the former Technikon North-West, which later merged with two other Technikons to become part of the Tshwane University of Technology. From October 1995 to December 1997, before joining Technikon North-West, Prof. Mosala worked for the Government of the Republic of South Africa as Chief Director responsible for Higher Education.
Prof. Mosala’s overwhelming success rests on a wealth of experience and a flawless educational background. He won the federal Theological Seminary Book Award, as well as an overseas postgraduate scholarship to study at the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom. As a result, he successfully obtained a master’s degree from the University of Manchester in 1980, and a PhD from the University of Cape Town in 1987. Prof. Mosala also completed a Master’s Degree in Business Administration at the Open University Business School in the United Kingdom in 1997.
In his message to the graduates, CUT Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Prof. Henk de Jager said, “Thank you for choosing CUT, you leave the ceremony today with a duty to uphold the good name of CUT as your alma mater. Make wise use of the knowledge and the skills that you have acquired. Of course, you have learned how to learn, and it is only through hard work and continuous learning that you will reach your full potential. Therefore, I would like to encourage you to continue with your further studies. Graduates, go out there and make a difference.”
