The 2024 Autumn Graduation Ceremonies of the Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT) commenced on a high note. CUT kicked off a week-long programme, from 4th to 11th April 2024, to confer degrees, diplomas, and certificates to a total of 4043 graduates. The ceremonies will see 18 individuals receive doctoral degrees, while 38 will be awarded master's degrees.
This year is very noteworthy and special for CUT as the University celebrates its 20th anniversary. In 2004, CUT was declared a University of Technology, achieving numerous achievements while pursuing academic excellence and serving the region. The University’s 20 years of excellence are remarkable achievements, and the University has continuously raised the bar regarding the number of graduates who receive their qualifications.
“From 2004 to 2023, CUT has confidently conferred 66616 degrees, showcasing its commitment to academic excellence. To our graduates, you are part of a distinguished group of these graduates to whom the university has awarded their qualifications since 2004, said CUT Deputy-Vice Chancellor of Teaching and Learning, Prof. David Ngidi.
Prof. Ngidi added that over the past two decades, the University has witnessed a remarkable surge in postgraduate enrolments, leading to a significant increase in research initiatives. From a modest 371 enrolments in 2004, the number rose to 1005 in 2010 and has now reached an impressive 1646 for 2024.
“To our graduates, as we celebrate your achievements, remember that this is just the beginning of your journey, and the knowledge and skills you have acquired will serve you well in your future endeavours. As you move forward, always remember to stay curious, be open to new ideas, and never stop learning. Your degree from CUT will open numerous opportunities for you, and we take pride in knowing that we have contributed to your success. Congratulations on being a part of the university alumni cohorts of 2024,” applauded Prof. Ngidi.
