CUT celebrates the completion of a multi-purpose hall at Welkom Campus

Multi-purpose hall project at the Welkom campus, an asset for both academic and non-academic purposes envisioned to generate third-stream income for the university.
CUT Estates and Infrastructure is proud to announce the successful completion of its much-anticipated multi-purpose hall project at the Welkom campus. This landmark project, initiated in the 2018 academic year and completed in December 2024, has been a significant achievement in the university's ongoing efforts to enhance its facilities and improve the student experience.
The decision to build the 900-capacity multi-purpose hall was driven by the need to provide a versatile space that could accommodate a wide range of activities including classes, examinations, student competitions, university graduations, and conferences. Additionally, the new facility is expected to generate a third-stream income for the university, making it an asset for both academic and non-academic purposes. Furthermore, the hall is set to become a hub for academic and extracurricular activities, enriching the university experience for students and faculty alike. The new venue will also allow the university to host a variety of events that will benefit the broader community of Matjhabeng, from conferences to public lectures and cultural performances.

The Department of Higher Education and Training provided funding for the project to establish a state-of-the-art venue that supports the university’s diverse activities and events. “This new facility will provide a versatile space that benefits our staff, students, and the broader Matjhabeng community,” said Mr Nathi Ndawo, Senior Director of Estates and Infrastructure.
Mr Ndawo added that, “one of the standout achievements of this project was the successful management of the construction process, as there were no site or safety-related incidents - a testament to the careful planning and adherence to safety protocols throughout the project.”
He applauded both the internal and external stakeholders for playing a crucial role in the progression and successful completion of the project; and the support received throughout the construction period.
“As the university continues to grow and develop, projects like these are vital in enhancing its infrastructure and capacity to provide world-class education and services. The completion of this project is a proud moment for us, and it stands as a testament to the university’s commitment to quality education. We look forward to the continued success, exciting opportunities and endless memories that will be created by this new campus feature.”
