1. Applications Open
Annually in April
The portal opens for the upcoming academic year. We encourage you to start your application early to gather all necessary documents without stress.
2. Applications Close
30 September
Please note: To ensure fair and efficient processing for all, there are no late applications and no reviewing of rejected statuses. Secure your spot before the window closes.
3. Feedback & Outcomes
Mid-January
Once national matric results are released, we finalise decisions. Every applicant will receive their official outcome, giving you clarity and time to prepare for registration.

After applying, CUT will review your documents and admission points. You will receive an email or SMS when your status changes, but you can also check for updates at any time using the portal below.

If you meet the requirements, you will receive an official offer to study at CUT. Once you accept the offer, you can begin preparing for registration by reviewing the requirements, paying your initial fees, and gathering your documents.

Orientation is your official welcome to the university, where you will meet your faculty, tour the campus, learn how to use eThuto and the Student Portal, connect with fellow students, and receive everything you need to start your studies with confidence.

A Step-by-Step Start to Your Academic Year
Registration is an administrative task and your onboarding process. We have designed this cycle to ensure you are academically registered, socially connected, and fully prepared before your first lecture. Follow these steps for a smooth transition.
Registration & Orientation Timeline
1. Registration Opens
Starts Mid-January
- 1st Year Students: around the third week of January
- Senior Students: the fourth week of January
- Continued M & D: third week to the end of Feb (Faculty approved students only)
2. Orientation Week
Last Week of January
To set you up for success, you are expected to attend two orientations:
- General CUT Orientation: Your introduction to campus life, resources, and student support.
- Faculty-Specific Orientation: Tailored guidance on your specific programme, rules, and academic expectations.
3. Course Control Period
First week of February
This is your safety net. Late registration, programme changes, subject additions, or cancellations are processed during this specific window across all faculties and campuses.
4. Classes Commence
First or Second Week of February
You are registered, oriented, and ready. Welcome to the Central University of Technology. Your academic journey begins.
