Student Success
Safety, Accommodation, and Well-being
Your child's well-being is our priority. Our campuses in Bloemfontein and Welkom offer secure environments with access to accredited accommodation and 24-hour campus security.
Accommodation and Residences
Finding safe, comfortable accommodation is a top priority. While CUT offers on-campus residences, space is highly limited. To ensure all students have a safe place to stay, CUT supports a network of high-quality, off-campus accredited accommodation in both towns.
Campus Safety and Security
CUT is committed to providing a safe, secure environment for learning. Our campuses are protected by 24-hour security personnel and strict access control. However, navigating any urban environment requires street awareness. We strongly encourage parents to discuss personal safety and smart daily habits with their children before they arrive.
Key safety habits to discuss with your student:
- Protect Valuables: Keep laptops, phones, and bags secure and out of sight in public spaces.
- Move During Active Hours: Plan schedules to walk or travel during the day when there is high movement and activity.
- Avoid Late-Night Isolation: Use reliable transport options after dark or always move in large, familiar groups. If unavoidable, contact a security team member for an escort.
- Rely On Campus Security: Once inside the campus gates, students are in a monitored, access-controlled environment supported by our 24-hour security team.
Health and Wellness Services
The transition to university life can be demanding. CUT provides comprehensive, on-campus health and wellness services to ensure your child has the physical and psychological support they need to thrive.
What is available to your student:
- Medical Care: On-campus nursing and primary healthcare support, as well as referrals to local professionals when necessary.
- Psychosocial Support: Confidential counseling to help students manage academic stress, anxiety, and the emotional transition to independent living.
- Holistic Well-being: Proactive wellness programs and peer support networks designed to keep students healthy and resilient.
While university health services are strictly confidential to respect your child's independence, we encourage you to keep open lines of communication at home and remind them that asking for help is a sign of strength.

Applied Impact
Preparing Work-Ready Graduates
A CUT qualification is designed for the real world. Through applied learning, industry partnerships, and Work-Integrated Learning (WIL), we ensure your child graduates with the practical skills employers demand.
The Value of a University of Technology
Unlike traditional universities that focus heavily on pure theory, a University of Technology is specifically mandated to produce career-ready professionals. A CUT qualification blends academic rigour with workplace-focused training, applied research, and an entrepreneurial mindset.
Work-Integrated Learning (WIL)
At CUT, practical experience is not an optional extra; it is a compulsory module built directly into the curriculum. Students bridge the gap between the classroom and the workplace through industry placements, real-world problem solving, and high-tech simulated environments.

Our dedicated Careers Office actively prepares students for the world of work from their first year, providing employability training, CV workshops, mock interviews, and access to exclusive career fairs and the Student Temporary Employment Programme (STEP).
