Fees and Funding

Planning your finances is part of planning your success. This page explains how fees work at CUT, when payments are due, and where undergraduate and postgraduate students can find funding support. For the latest fee amounts, always refer to the official tuition page and the annual financial registration guidelines.

Understanding Your Fees

Tuition Fees and the Fees Calendar

Tuition and accommodation fees are adjusted each year in line with national higher education directives. View the full programme fee breakdown and download the official fees calendar.

Application and Registration Payments

Applying to CUT is free, with no application or residence application fee. When you register, a minimum initial payment secures your place and covers your registration fee plus deposits on tuition and, where applicable, residence. Current amounts are published in the financial registration guidelines.

NSFAS-funded students and students with confirmed donor funding are exempt from the minimum initial payment, subject to verification by the Fees and Financial Aid Office.

Payment Methods and Due Dates

Pay directly into the official CUT bank account and always quote your student number as reference. First-semester balances are due by 31 May, and annual or second-semester balances by 31 October.

 Banking Details

Security Notice

CUT will never request fee payments into a personal or third-party account. Always verify banking details through official CUT channels.

Funding Your Studies

NSFAS

NSFAS funds eligible South African students and manages its own applications, approvals and payments.

Postgraduate Funding

Master's and doctoral students can access National Research Foundation grants, SETA funding and external bursaries. Contact your faculty or the Research Development and Postgraduate Studies team to discuss funding opportunities in your field.

Managing Your Student Account

Information on handling outstanding balances, payment arrangements, and financial appeals.

Students with debt from previous years must settle their account or approve a payment arrangement before re-registering. Arrangements require an Acknowledgement of Debt and a debit order authorisation.

 Arrange Your Account

If your funding falls through or you face unexpected hardship, the Financial Appeals and Aid Committee can consider your circumstances with a completed financial appeals form.

The open and closing dates for appeals are shared with students during the year.
