International Student Support
The International Student Support Office is mandated to provide dedicated assistance to international students and serves as the first port of call within the Centre for Global Engagement (CGE).
We provide a comprehensive range of services, starting from the management of pre-registration and registration processes to ensuring legal compliance. General support is vital to our daily operations, including assistance with application processes, query management, and the issuing of relevant support letters for your studies.
Programmes Offered
CUT offers a wide range of qualifications across its four faculties:
How to Apply
Admissions for all international applications are subject to each faculty's specific qualification requirements. All admitted international students must comply with the requirements stipulated in the university’s admission policy and guidelines.
Undergraduate Certificate and Diploma Applicants
Undergraduate certificate and diploma applicants from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and non-SADC regions do not require matriculation exemption or an endorsement from the Matriculation Board (Universities South Africa, USAf). These applicants also do not need to have their school-leaving qualifications evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
For admission, please consult the APS conversion table (PDF) to determine your admission score, which will be scrutinised by the respective faculty. The total APS is the sum of the achievement ratings of your six school subjects. Please note: Meeting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission, as space is limited in each programme.
Undergraduate Degree Applicants
Important Compliance Requirement: Matriculation exemption is a mandatory legal prerequisite for pursuing a first-degree course at a South African university.
If you have completed an international curriculum or foreign education system, you must ensure that you fulfill the matriculation exemption criteria established by Universities South Africa (USAf). You must have your school qualifications evaluated by USAf (mb.usaf.ac.za), who will issue a certificate of exemption to those who qualify. Additionally, you must complete an online assessment at mbit-application.usaf.ac.za/assessment/ to confirm compliance. Please verify that you meet the prerequisites and have achieved the specified grades in the required subjects at the appropriate levels.
Postgraduate Degree Applicants
All prospective international students with a foreign qualification who wish to study towards a postgraduate qualification at CUT must submit their qualifications to the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) for evaluation.
Master's or Doctoral Applicants
Before You Apply: If you are a prospective Master's or Doctoral student, please contact the Head of Department or the Assistant Dean: Research, Innovation and Engagement to discuss your research project before applying online.
The Centre for Global Engagement can assist prospective postgraduate students with the relevant contact details. Please reach out to us for guidance.
