Advancing Human Resources Management Professional Development: The Maccauvlei Learning Academy Partnership
Advancing HRM Professional Development: The Maccauvlei Learning Academy Partnership
Faculty of Management Sciences · Department of Business Management
Since 2012, the Department of Business Management has maintained a strategic, high-impact partnership with Maccauvlei Learning Academy (MLA). This initiative extends CUT’s prestigious Human Resource Management (HRM) academic offerings to experienced, working professionals, fostering lifelong learning while generating sustainable third-stream income for the University.
Following a successful track record of academic excellence and industry relevance, the partnership has been renewed for a further five-year cycle (2026–2030). The project delivers advanced qualifications while maintaining absolute academic parity with CUT’s mainstream programmes, ensuring that every graduate meets the University’s rigorous quality assurance standards.
Strategic Alignment & Delivery Model
Lifelong Learning & Sustainability
Expanding access to higher education for economically active professionals while establishing a robust, financially sustainable third-stream revenue model for the University.
UoT Mandate
Strengthening human capital capacity and industry engagement by delivering advanced, applied professional education that responds directly to contemporary workplace demands.
The MLA Delivery Framework
Uncompromising Academic Rigour
Students participate in official CUT-approved qualifications. The Department maintains full responsibility for academic quality, assessment, and moderation, utilising the same expert moderators as mainstream programmes to guarantee absolute consistency.
Flexible, Blended Learning
The model accommodates working professionals through approximately ten structured study schools per year, supported by contact block sessions, Blackboard/eThuto online resources, and comprehensive Portfolio of Evidence (POE) assessments.
Recognition of Prior Learning
The partnership actively supports experienced practitioners through CUT’s approved Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) policies, ensuring equitable access for candidates with extensive industry experience.
Partnership Impact & Institutional Value
The MLA partnership delivers multifaceted value that extends well beyond direct financial returns. It serves as a vital bridge between academic theory and professional practice, enriching both the student experience and the broader HR industry.
