Programme-Specific Requirements

Minimum Qualification

A National Senior Certificate (NSC) or an equivalent qualification.

Required Subjects & Pass Levels

  • CUT Scoring Scale (APS): A minimum of 28 points is required. (Due to high demand, candidates scoring less than 27 points will NOT be considered).
  • Mandatory Testing & Interview: EVERY applicant must undergo a psychometric and/or scholastic aptitude test, as well as participate in an interview.

Understanding Your Matric Pass Level

To help you understand your eligibility, here is a quick guide to the National Senior Certificate (NSC) pass levels. This programme requires a Diploma Pass.

Diploma Pass (Required)

Pass 6 of 7 subjects. Four subjects must be at least 40% (Level 3), including Home Language (40%). Language of Learning and Teaching (LOLT) must be at least 30%. You may fail one subject. This allows enrolment for a diploma course at a university of technology.

Bachelor’s Pass

Pass 6 of 7 subjects. Four subjects must be at least 50% (Level 4), including Home Language (40%). LOLT must be at least 30%. You may fail one subject. This allows application for a degree course.

Certificate Pass

Pass 6 of 7 subjects. Two subjects above 40%, four subjects above 30%, including Home Language (40%). You may fail one subject. This allows study for a higher certificate.


Selection Process & Programme Regulations

Selection Process & Progression

  • Strict Progression & Foundation Modules: A maximum of 32 credits of failed modules may be carried over to the next year. However, the following foundation modules MUST be passed independently and cannot be included in the 32-credit allowance. Failing any of these prevents progression to the second year:
    • Basic Digital Literacy (DLC5011) & Advanced Digital Literacy (ADC5022) (DLC5011 must be passed before registering for ADC5022)
    • Numeracy Skills (NMR5011)
    • Academic Literacy and Communication Studies 1 & 2 (LCS5011 & LCS5012)
    • Personal Information Management (PIM5011)
  • Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) Requirements:
    • A 6-month WIL placement is required in Semester 2 of the third year at an accredited tourism business. Students must be self-sufficient in handling personal and financial needs during this time.
    • Students must pass ALL first- and second-year modules to qualify for WIL.
    • Attendance at compulsory WIL preparation classes in Semester 1 of the third year is mandatory.
    • Participation in community engagement projects initiated by the Department is required.
  • Graduation Requirements: Successful completion of this qualification requires the successful completion of Personal Information Management (PIM5011).
