Programme-Specific Requirements

Minimum Qualification

A National Senior Certificate (NSC), Senior Certificate (SC), or an equivalent qualification.

TVET College Applicants: Students with Business and Office Management related subjects are eligible for selection.

Required Subjects & Pass Levels

  • English: Minimum 50% (NSC/SC) OR Communication: Minimum 50% (TVET/NCV).
  • CUT Scoring Scale (APS): Minimum 27 points (strictly required for all applicants).

Understanding Your Matric Pass Level

To help you understand your eligibility, here is a quick guide to the National Senior Certificate (NSC) pass levels. This programme requires a Diploma Pass.

Diploma Pass (Required)

Pass 6 of 7 subjects. Four subjects must be at least 40% (Level 3), including Home Language (40%). Language of Learning and Teaching (LOLT) must be at least 30%. You may fail one subject. This allows enrolment for a diploma course at a university of technology.

Bachelor’s Pass

Pass 6 of 7 subjects. Four subjects must be at least 50% (Level 4), including Home Language (40%). LOLT must be at least 30%. You may fail one subject. This allows application for a degree course.

Certificate Pass

Pass 6 of 7 subjects. Two subjects above 40%, four subjects above 30%, including Home Language (40%). You may fail one subject. This allows study for a higher certificate.


Selection Process & Programme Regulations

Selection Process & Progression

  • Strict APS Requirement: Only candidates with an AP-score of 27 and higher will be eligible for selection.
  • TVET/NCV Applicants: Students with Business and Office Management related subjects are eligible, provided they meet the 27-point APS threshold and achieve a minimum of 50% in Communication. Selection is subject to Senate-approved requirements.
  • Study Mode: This learning programme is presented on a full-time basis only.
  • Curriculum Structure: In addition to compulsory offerings, at least one optional instructional offering must be taken up to Level II, ensuring a total of at least 17 instructional offerings constitute the Diploma.
  • Work-Integrated Learning (WIL): The candidate is expected to gain three months’ practical experience at an approved institution during the third year of study.
  • Progression: The student may only follow the second- or third-year level of study on condition that the first- or second-year level, respectively, has been successfully completed.
  • Graduation Requirements: Successful completion of this qualification requires the successful completion of the Academic Literacy and Communication Studies programme (LCS5011 and LCS5012) and Personal Information Management (PIM5011 or PIM5012).
