Programme-Specific Requirements

Minimum Prior Qualification

Applicants must meet one of the following qualification combinations:

  • A four-year professional teaching degree;
  • An appropriate bachelor’s degree and a recognised professional teaching qualification; or
  • A four-year professional teaching qualification, as well as an Advanced Diploma in Educational Management.

Required Academic Performance & Prerequisites

  • Minimum Average: Successful students must have obtained an average of 60% in the final year of their BEd degree studies or in their PGCE to be considered.
  • Research Component: The curriculum includes a dedicated Research Methods and Techniques module, which requires the completion and evaluation of a formal research project.

Selection Process & Additional Requirements

Duration & Study Mode

This programme is offered as one year’s full-time or two years’ part-time study. After successful completion, the Bachelor of Education (Honours) Degree will be awarded during an official graduation ceremony of CUT.

Important for Working Teachers: Students in employment as teachers MUST register as part-time students (i.e., over two years). Any person enrolled whilst holding a position at a place of work in terms of the Labour Relations Act (Act No. 66 of 1995) is considered a part-time student.

Admission is strictly subject to achieving the compulsory 60% minimum average and meeting the specific prior qualification requirements. Please note that admission is limited to the available space on both campuses.
