CUT’s Applied Food Security and Biotechnology team hosts Inter-VarsityBru Awards

CUT’s Centre for Applied Food Security and Biotechnology (CAFSaB), in partnership with the South African Breweries (SAB), Beer Association of South Africa and HEINEKEN South Africa, hosted the Inter-VarsityBru Awards at the Hotel School following the two-day beer brewing competition which began on 21 October 2022.

Fifteen institutions, including universities consisting of five members per team, participated in this year’s Inter-VarsityBru competition. Teams were challenged to create brews in categories such as Best Lager Beer, Best Sour Beer, Best African Wild Ale, Best Low Alcohol Beer and Best Bottle Dress Design Label that were evaluated according to the Beer Judge Certification Programme (BJCP) guidelines.

The overall winners for the Inter-VarsityBru 2022 with the Best Beer on Show are the University of Cape Town.

Of the above categories, CUT managed to bag the third-place position in Best Label Design and second place in Best Low Alcohol Beer.
