CUT employees from humble beginnings to greatness

This week CUT celebrates Mr Kgothalang Mahao.

Mr Mahao joined CUT as Quality Enhancement Officer: Reviews, under the guidance of the Quality Enhancement Advisor: Reviews in the Institutional Planning and Quality Enhancement (IPQE) Unit. He was responsible for coordinating internal reviews, assisting programmes to prepare for the external reviews, and coordinating the 2020 Institutional Mock Audit. He also worked closely with Quality Enhancement Advisor: Accreditation, as their Senior Director always encouraged them to cross-pollinate and be versatile in different roles. When Quality Enhancement Advisor: Accreditation personnel resigned in June 2021, he was asked to act in his position until May 2022.

He said that having spent two years managing Internship Programs assisted him in his current position. “I am excited about my new role as Quality Enhancement Advisor: Accreditation. This is the perfect platform for me to contribute to bringing quality qualifications to our institution in line with our Vision 2030. I am in a good space surrounded by wonderful colleagues who is always willing to assist whenever possible.”

What he loves most about his current position is advising colleagues on accreditation matters and collaborating with the CUT stakeholder to ensure that the university has a solid academic structure.

When asked whether CUT is investing in the growth and development of its employees, Mahao said that he is a living testimony of that, including many others. “Since joining CUT, I have been to numerous training and development workshops, and that is empowering. The university always ensures that we remain relevant and at par with our peers in other institutions. Assuming this position on a full-time basis also assisted me greatly as I will soon be registering for a master’s degree in Entrepreneurial Management.”

He also mentioned that his one son will be registering with CUT 2023, and the other, still in grade 11, has also shown interest in pursuing his career here after completing his matric. “CUT not only opened its doors for me but my family as well. This opportunity gave me peace of mind and a secured future for my entire family.”

His short-term plan is to see himself as a well-vested individual in Quality, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, as well as Management Information Systems matters, adding much value to the Institution and the Higher Education sector.

“My developmental plan is to master accreditation matters and attend courses in Planning, MIS and Monitoring and Evaluation so that I can add massive value to my team and the university,” he concluded.
