Advancing Community Resilience Through Applied Management Sciences

The Faculty of Management Sciences drives meaningful societal impact through a multidisciplinary community engagement portfolio. By integrating expertise from Accounting and Auditing, Government Management, Marketing, and the Hotel School, we promote financial inclusion, robust governance, entrepreneurship, and community well-being through collaborative, service-learning partnerships.

Rather than operating in silos, these initiatives create a dynamic ecosystem where academic knowledge is applied directly to real-world challenges. Students gain invaluable experiential learning opportunities, while communities, SMMEs, and public sector entities receive practical, sustainable support tailored to their specific developmental needs.

Strategic Alignment & Community Mission

Social & Economic Innovation

Catalysing local economic development and community well-being through applied academic expertise, financial literacy, and strengthened public sector governance.

UoT Mandate

Fulfilling the University of Technology mandate by embedding service-learning into the curriculum, ensuring students develop professional competence while addressing identified community needs.

Core Pillars of Engagement

Financial Inclusion & Empowerment

Governance & Public Capacity

Strengthening public sector capability through provincial workshops, policy discussions, and media engagements that enhance public understanding of accountability and service delivery.

Education & Community Well-being

Advancing food security, legal awareness (via the Justice Junction programme), and practical skills development through direct, interdisciplinary community outreach.

Collaborative Ecosystem & Measurable Impact

The impact of our community engagement is amplified through strategic, cross-sector partnerships. By aligning academic resources with industry and civil society, we create sustainable interventions that yield measurable improvements in knowledge, operational efficiency, and community resilience.
