University of Botswana delegates re-visit CUT to learn more about resource management

After a successful visit by the University of Botswana in February 2022, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. David Norris and his delegates were greatly impressed by the facilities and how the university was well managed. This led to a follow-up visit by another delegation on 05 - 07 April 2022.

Prof. Alfred Ngowi, acting Vice-Chancellor and Principal warmly welcomed the guests from Botswana and indicated that he would like to see the two institutions collaborate on teaching, research, skills development, and student mobility. He said that COVID-19 Pandemic was an eye-opener for possibilities that have always been there but were never seen.

He said that it is high time we change the way we teach and follow current trends. “The arrangement of the classroom is no longer relevant. We need to change our approach to teaching and also look at what we teach. Things have changed drastically, and lifelong learning has never been more meaningful. As we move forward, we need to position ourselves and know what skills are required so that we don’t produce graduates that are not fit for employment. The other thing that has come with technology is student mobility, which can be done online, but there are those that cannot be done online, which is why it is important for us to meet. One of the great ideas we have is to create a smart campus and combine infrastructure, digital capabilities, and smart technologies to make our university smart.”

Mr Lopang Mosupi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Finance and Administration, said that the main reason for their visit was inspired by the recent visit of their Vice-Chancellor, Prof. David Norris. He was impressed by CUT facilities and the maintenance thereof.  “Our visit here is to come and learn from you how you manage your facilities and how you combine academics vs revenue generation. Our main objective is resources management and optimisation of what you have at hand, especially considering the facility management unit,” he said.

In conclusion, he said, “To achieve in our operations, we have to share resources efficiently within an institution to ensure that we achieve all our set projects.
