Two CUT executives leading newly created portfolios
CUT has appointed Prof. David Ngidi, previously Dean of Humanities, as Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Teaching and Learning and Prof. Henk de Jager, former Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Academic and Research as Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research, Innovation, and Engagement. The two executive positions came into being after the Academic and Research portfolio was split into Teaching and Learning; and Research, Innovation and Engagements.  

Prof. de Jager, who was formerly responsible for the academic portfolio, will be engaging more in research and innovation actions in order to guide the university in producing the intended socio-economic development outcomes as envisaged in Vision 2020. He holds an MDipTech in Electrical Engineering; BA (Industrial Psychology); PGDip (Tertiary Education) and a DTech (Education Management). Furthermore, he is a member of several professional bodies, and is registered as a Professional Engineering Technologist with the Engineering Council of South Africa.   He joined the university in July 2012 as Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Academic and Research until December 2015. 

The teaching and learning executive position was restructured to give the new executive, Prof. David Ngidi a new thrust of leading CUT into becoming a world-class university in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. He joined CUT in 2010 as the Dean of Humanities, which was a newly established Faculty at the time. He holds a Master’s degree in Psychology of Education from the University of South Africa (UNISA) and Doctor of Education degree in Psychology of Education from the University of Zululand.  He has served in South African Journal of Education (SAJE) as a National editorial board member; Southern African Society for Education (SASE) as General Secretary/ Treasurer and a registered member of International Association of University Principals/United Nations (IAUP/UN) Commission (Disarmament Education, Conflict Resolution and Peace), Education Association of South Africa (EASA) and Southern African Society for Education (SASE); Consulting Editor for Journal of Educational Review (JER), Nigeria; member of the Professor Ngidi is an NRF, Category C rated researcher for a period, 01 January 2014 to 31 December 2016.
