The future of technical drawing is CAD
CUT’s Department of Mathematics, Science and Technology Education have embraced Computer Aided Drawing (CAD) as the future of drawing and design, and 3D printing will become more and more mainstream – that’s why our students who will become teachers are trained in CAD!

The majority of schools in South Africa still teach technical drawing by hand except for a few schools that make use of CAD.  The change from ordinary hand drawings to Computer Aided Drawing (CAD) has been more dramatic and far reaching than was anticipated and brings about a great mind shift to the drawing concept of Engineering Graphics and Design teachers. The sustainability of the subject is of great and far reaching value, because CAD is applied in a variety of careers like engineering, architecture, aerospace, automotive industry, the world of hobbies, crafts, art, entertainment, medical modeling and medical device manufacturing. CUT is currently co-hosting the 14th Annual International RAPDASA 2013 Conference, in partnership with the Rapid Product Development Association of South Africa, and the Department of Science and Technology in one of the Free State’s jewels Clarens, for more information visit, http://www.rapdasa.org/programmespeakers.aspx
