The Central University of Technology launches 2022 CHE Institutional Audit

CUT’s Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Prof. Henk de Jager, has officially launched the 2022 Council on Higher Education (CHE) Institutional Audit. The process will assist the institution in assessing the effectiveness of the overarching quality assurance system, particularly how it affects students and their success.

Prof. de Jager highlighted that the audit's focus would be on CUT's academic projects, namely teaching and learning, research, and community engagement. "What is critical is that the CHE are evaluating our quality assurance framework, what we call at our university, quality enhancement. That is their major focus. Their strategy is to access our systems on how we continuously enhance quality assurance across all the activities of the university," he said.

Four task teams comprising of staff, student leadership and stakeholders have been established. They will focus on Institutional Governance and Management, Design and Implementation of Institutional Quality Management Systems, Coherence and Integration of Institutional Quality Management Systems and Curriculum Development and Learning and Teaching.

"The most important aspect of this audit is our self-evaluation report, that is the foundation and that is why it is so critical that each and every staff member, student and stakeholder must play their role, including our governance structures, council and others to ensure that we have a self-reflective, honest report at the end of the day. We commend ourselves on areas that we feel are okay, but that we are also very critical of ourselves regarding areas that we know need improvement," added Prof. de Jager.

"Let us commit to walk the extra mile for this university, at the end of the day, it is about the university that we would like to leave a legacy by strengthening the Central University of Technology to be the leading University of Technology in Africa," encouraged Prof. de Jager.
