Research value chain – CUT develops basic science writing
Any institution of higher learning the world over has three pillars of significance; teaching and learning, community engagement and very importantly research.

“Research is how we discover new things. Research is how we discover different ways of thinking, without that we would still be in the stone age, making fire with a rock !” states Prof. Deseré Kokt, Research Professor in Leisure Management, who as a devoted researcher, recently released a book on guest house management. During a recent seminar - hosted annually to ensure CUT entrenches the love of research with new academic staff and invigorate staff members with new ideas to do their research – the basics of science writing was explored.

Science writing is inextricably linked with the research process and the ability to write scientifically is an imperative for any researcher, irrespective whether they are a novice or an established researcher. Science writing remains a challenge for post-graduate students and it is a developmental process that takes time and persistence to master. The important role of the supervisor in guiding students to master the art of science writing was also acknowledged, and explored during the session at CUT, the institution places high value on excellence.
