Mr Qondakele Sompondo has been appointed as Director of Institutional Advancement at the Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT), effective February 2025. His role includes fundraising, stakeholder engagement, and institutional positioning.

Mr Sompondo holds a master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the Rhodes University Business School, a Postgraduate Certificate in advancement and resource mobilisation from Rhodes University Business School, and a BA Honours in Corporate Communication from Nelson Mandela University.

Before joining CUT, he served as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of United Through Sport, a sport-for-development charity based in Gqeberha, with offices in the UK and the USA, where he was responsible for the organisation's overall strategy and fundraising initiatives. Prior to that, he was the founding Director of Institutional Advancement at Sol Plaatje University, where he led efforts to position the institution and mobilise resources from individuals, corporates, trusts, and foundations.

He spent a decade at Rhodes University as a Manager in the Department of Development and Fundraising. Earlier in his career, he was the Director of External Relations at Ubuntu Pathways in Gqeberha, where he played a key role in fundraising, public relations, stakeholder engagement, and marketing. He was instrumental in the organisation’s largest capital campaign, which led to the construction of the award-winning Ubuntu Centre in Zwide Township. Mr Qondakele Sompondo is an accomplished professional with significant achievements in various leadership roles.
